not so hot

Now what should you avoid? Avoid any jeans that feature too much of anything. Your best bet is to keep the details to a minimum. For example, steer clear of jeans with very pronounced mustaches under the front pockets -- they're tacky at best. As well, any big bleached patches are not a good idea. And leave the lace, fringes and jewels for Christina, Britney and the Material Girl. Finally, remember that most jeans shrink when put in the dryer for the first time, so watch out because knee-length pants are only a good idea during summer.

2- Carpenter/worker-style denim is another look that has emerged in the spotlight. But beware; not all carpenter jeans are created equal. Try to find a pair that features a funky twist, like diagonally-angled flap button pockets at thigh level, a tighter flare cut, or patchwork with pronounced stitching.

the 3 biggest styles

There are mainly three styles of jeans that are all the rage this year.

1- You might consider the first style "the punk look;" the fit is slightly tighter around the thigh region and the legs flare out slightly at the bottom. They're usually torn in strategic places and feature some patchwork detailing. Punk-style jeans offer a rugged look -- take your pick among black, charcoal, and very light blue shades.
